Sempervivum

Sempervivum is a genus of approximately 40 species and are commonly known as houseleeks or hens and chicks, as they produce babies prolifically. They are low care and form lovely mats of ground cover, in rosettes of many different colours. During different seasons, they are almost unidentifiable, as they change their colouring so dramatically. Their flowers are the most beautiful amongst the succulent varieties and last for quite a long time. They are however monocarpic, which means the rosette the flower comes from will eventually die but there are so many more to take it’s place. Due to their compact nature, they can be prone to mealy infestations.
